About Me

I’m happily (not just obligatorily) married to my high-school sweetheart, Chris. We have two teenage daughters, Avery and Presley, and a bonus son, Francis, from the Dominican Republic. I attended school in 5 different states all before 8th grade, so I know a thing or two about being the new kid, finding one’s place in a sea of teenagers, and how the heck to get things done (or at least thrive!) against the odds. It also took me a long time to finish college -- 7 years just for a Bachelor's! (Since then, I've earned two Master's and a Ph.D.)

I love to travel (on the cheap!) and have been to 48 states and 5 countries. I also love singing, quilting, and am a voracious reader and genealogist (Nerd Alert). By the way, I've also been on MTV!

Throughout my professional career I have worn many hats. I have taught middle school, high school, and university students. It seems like I’ve taught every subject but math (seriously). However, I’ve spent the most time in the science department, even though I’m not a “Science-person.” When I first began my teaching career, I planned to teach American History or English, have a long, illustrious career, and retire with a library or football field named after me. Needless to say, this has not proven to be my path.

I have fun teaching; I love my students and co-workers. I enjoy building relationships and helping. In school, we see students who have it all together and students who are still lost. I’ve known students who value counselors’ resources and students who can’t even tell me who their counselor is. Every day is different and I love it. Even after 18 years, I still tear up at graduation because of the sheer potential that we are sending out into the world.
